Published in a series of articles in 1911 in Flight magazine, this series on "A study of bird flight" was written by Ernest Hanbury Hankin (February 4, 1865 â March 29, 1939). Hankin was a bacteriologist in India, who may have stumbled on bacteriophages in the Ganges river which appeared to keep cholera under check. This study on bird flight undertaken by observation in India was pioneering and was followed by a book published in 1914 on Animal flight - linked below
